Care Amiche,Cari Amici,carissimi mastinari ,

prima di iniziare i nostri lavori desidero ricordare un vecchio amico dell'Atimana che purtroppo,ci ha lasciato quest'anno.Walt Weise non èpiù con noi. Da tempo si era ritirato dalla cinofilia ufficale tedesca,e il suo ultimo periodo di vita non è stato per lui facile.Ritengo diveroso ricordarlo in quanto per molti anni è stato Presidente del club fur Molosse e. v.,Giudice internazionale molto apprezzato,allevatore di Boxer,Mastiff e Mastini Napoletani.

E'stato uno dei padri fondatori dell'Atimana,nella quale ha sempre creduto fermamente.Assieme a lui e a Dupuis abbiamo sctìritto nel 1993 lo Statuto.E' stato sin dalla fondazione ufficiale,e per molto tempo,vice presidente della nostra asssociazione giudicando più volte alle nostre manifestazioni. Nel 1994 ha organizzato a Gross-Umstad il 4°campionato,doveè stato il vero grande,signorile "padrone di casa".Fu un successo per il suo club,che allora presiedeva,e per l'Atimana, con oltre 10 Mastini Napoletani presenti.L'anno successsivo a Contarina, in Italia, una femmina di sua proprietà Fruit d'Amour Esperia, vinse il titolodi Campionessa Atimana Giovane 1995.

ho voluto, doverosamente, ricordare queste cose perchè la cinofilia dimentica presto i meriti di chi per essa ha lavorato con grande passioner,quasi un "usa e getta" tipico di questa nostra perversa civiltà dei consumi.Walt è stato un grande cinofilo,un grande cinotecnico e un grande appassionato del Mastini Napoletano,scrivendo,tra,l'altro il libro Der mastino Napoletano,nel 1983,che ha contribuito in Germania,ma non solo,ad una migliore conoscenza di questa razza.

Per ricordarlo come merita ho messo personalmente in palio,per il 15°Campionato Atimana di domani,un premio speciale da asssegnare alla Campionessa Giovane 2005,in ricordo di lui e del suo successo,giusti 10 anni fa,con una giovane stupenda femmina proprio di allevamento ungherese. Addio Walt, gli Amici mastinari ricorderanno sempre la tua grande passione

Così come desidero rinnovare le più sentite condoglianze al carissimo Amico Diego Garcia Lozano per la perdita di sua Madre.La Signora Lozano ha ospitato più volte con grande signorilità molti "mastinari" nella sua bellissima casa a Città del Messsico ed è ancora vivo lo stupendo ricordo di un pranzo davvero eccezionale (in occassione dello scorso campionato Atimana),allietato da un folclioristico complesso in costume che ci ha proposto le più belle musiche di quel grande Paese.E' stata per me l'ultima volta che ho avuto il piacere di incontrarla,Amava,come Diego ama, il Mastino Napoletano.Ha sempre avuto degli ottimi soggetti ed era particolarmente legata ad una femmina,tutt'ora vivente,di ben 12 anni,che ha sempre vissuto in casa da vera padrona!Un record che dovrebbe far meditare tutti sullo sforzo che L'Atimana sta portando avanti da tempo sulla longevità del Mastino Napoletano.

Quest'anno,per la prima volta, siamp a Budapest per lo svolgimento del nostro XV Campionato ATIMANA.Si tocca ancora un altro Paese a dimostrazione della nostra internazionalità.Un grazie di cuore,quindi,agli Amici del Columerra Molosser Club Hungary,con a capo il suo infaticabile Presidente,l'Amico Attila Spiriev,che si sono sobbarcati l'onere e la fatica di questi due giorni.A loro,a tutti loro ed a quanti hanno collaborato,alla perfetta riuscita della manifestazione va il grazie più sincero da parte di tutta l'ATIMANA e mio personale.Così come è doveroso ringraziare gli amici e colleghi giudici,Stefan Sinko e Guido Vandonio,per aver accettato l'onere dei giudiuzi.

Ultimo,ma non ultimo,un ringraziamento particolare va al Kennel Club Ungherese che, su richiesta degli organizzatori,ha messo in palio in CAC speciale per il nostro campionato, riconoscendo, di fatto,l'importanza della nostra manifestazione.

I delegati ufficiali dei vari Club affiliati, sulla base dei dati da loro forniti, sono:

Cui si aggiungono, come da art. 9 dello statuto, i Consiglieri uscenti, per un totale complessivo di 32 votanti.

Come potete vedere non sono indicati i delegati dei Club Colombiano e Portoghese, in quanto da 2 anni, pur sollecitati varie volte, anche con lettere raccomandate, non hanno dato alcuna informazione e non hanno pagato le relative quote di affiliazione. Cercheremo ancora di contattarli per conoscere le loro intenzioni.

Il Consiglio direttivo ha provveduto alla convocazione di questa Assemblea Generale come da statuto. Le relative lettere di convocazione, ai Presidenti di Club, ai Consiglieri ed ai Revisori dei Conti, sono state inviate in data 27 Luglio 2002.

Sotto il profilo organizzativo, c'è da segnalare che il Commissario Straordinario dell'ENCI, Prof. Cattaneo, ha revocato in dicembre la delibera del suo predecessore, con la quale nominava un Consigliere in rappresentanza dell'Ente Nazionale Cinofilia Italiana. Questo ci dispiace, abbiamo avuto una serie di contatti, ma anche il Prof. Cattaneo è stato sostituito da altro Commissario nominato dal Ministero delle Politiche Agricole. Noi continuiamo per la nostra strada, con impegno e serietà, che tutti da tempo, nei diversi Paesi, stanno apprezzando sempre più. Ci auguriamo che quanto prima la gestione dell'ENCI ritorni alla norma, ma soprattutto che ritorni ai Cinofili, ponendo fine alle gestioni commissariali, che durano ormai da quasi due anni. Con un Consiglio Direttivo eletto dai soci, sarà sicuramente più facile trovare una soluzione per noi definitiva e che ripristini quanto voluto, di fatto, dall'ENCI stesso.

Particolarmente importante è stata la nuova pubblicazione, che Voi avete ricevuto. Più completa ed aggiornata delle precedenti, la nuova edizione, la terza, sta avendo un successo ancora maggiore. Quasi tutti i giorni arrivano richieste da parte di Giudici, Allevatori o semplici appassionati che la desiderano. Questo è segno che è molto apprezzata. Così come l'hanno apprezzata i dirigenti della F.C.I., i Presidenti di Kennel Club e moltissimi Giudici che l'hanno già avuta. Per la sua realizzazione è doveroso un particolare e significativo ringraziamento alla DOLMA s.p.a., rappresentante per l'Italia della PEDIGREE, che ha sostenuto tutte le spese di stampa, cosi come ha contribuito in modo determinante per lo svolgimento del nostro campionato, quì a Contarina. Ancora una volta la DOLMA ha dimostrato una particole sensibilità nei nostri confronti e nei confronti di questa antica ed importante Razza Italiana.

Altrettanto importante per noi è stata l'attivazione del sito Internett. Di ciò si devono ringraziare gli Amici Giovanni Matrone e Vincenzo Manna che hanno sostenuto tutte le spese di composizione e attivazione. Soprattutto Matrone che lo ha materialmente impostato e che lo tiene aggiornato, stante la mia assoluta, cronica e totale ignoranza in fatto di elettronica e compiuters. Senza di lui non ci sarebbe mai stato un sito internett.

Ma la simpatia ed il sostegno che l'ATIMANA riceve da molti Amici italiani è dimostrato dai contributi personali che ci sono giunti dai Sigg. Patrizio De Vitale, Enzo Jervolino, Massimo Montemurro, Michele Palazzo ed Antonella Ronchi, che ancora una volta a nome dell'intera ATIMANA ringrazio. Della consistenza dei loro contributi troverete puntuale indicazione nel Rendiconto Consuntivo dell'anno 2001. Ciò dimostra quanto sia sentita la nostra Associazione in Italia, anche se il Club di razza non ne fa più parte. Questa dimostrazione di fiducia ci fa particolarmente piacere, in quanto è prova che i "Mastinari Italiani" sono sempre vicini all'ATIMANA e ne apprezzano le sue iniziative.

Per quanto concerne l'attività sportiva, non vi è dubbio che il Campionato 2001, svolto in Francia, ed organizzato dagli Amici del Club du Matin Napolitain, sia stato un grande successo. Per numero di partecipanti, per numero di nazioni presenti e per la sua buona organizzazione.

Ancora una volta è stato dimostrato che il nostro annuale Campionato è un vero "Campionato Mondiale". Di ciò ne sono prova i dati numerici, ma anche e soprattutto, l'eco di stampa che questa manifestazione ha suscitato. Più di venti testate di differenti Paesi hanno scritto, e con grande risalto, di questa manifestazione. Bollettini di Club, ma anche riviste cinofile e di informazione cinofila, hanno dedicato ampio spazio con grande rilievo fotografico. Questo è un'importante veicolo pubblicitario non solamente per i vincitori o per 1'ATIMANA, ma soprattutto per la Razza.

Quindi, al Club Francese, a quanti hanno materialmente lavorato per la sua organizzazione, e sono stati molti, va il più sincero ringraziamento. Nella nostra Associazione, cosi come nei Club, il volontariato riveste un ruolo particolarmente importante. Senza questi oscuri, ma valenti e preziosi collaboratori, l'attività associativa, stante i costi sempre più elevati, non potrebbe più esistere; Spesso lavorano proprio per il piacere di aiutare, senza nulla chiedere, e, spesso, ci dimentichiamo proprio di loro. Grazie, quindi, a tutti a nome di tutta 1'ATIMANA.

Altrettanto importante è stato il tema trattato dal carissimo Amico Dr. Nello Crimaldi nel corso della "Conferenza Scientifica Internazionale sul Mastino Napoletano". La "LEISHMANIOSI" è, purtroppo una piaga che colpisce sempre di più, soprattutto nei Paesi del bacino del Mediterraneo. La dotta Relazione ha interessato moltissimo tutti i partecipanti. Ne sono riprova i molti interventi, molti più del solito, che sono seguiti e che hanno posto interessantissime questioni, cui ha risposto il Dr. Crimaldi. Purtroppo ancora poco si sa per debellare questa malattia. Crediamo che il prezioso contributo portato dal Relatore possa aiutare gli Allevatori, almeno per quanto riguarda la prevenzione ed il capire tempestivamente la sintomatologia, al fine di porre in atto presidi sanitari preventivi ed urgenti. Per tutto questo non mi stancherò mai di ringraziare Nello Crimaldi. In questi anni, ed anche per il futuro, ne sono certo, è stato è sarà per noi un valentissimo consulente, sempre disponibile a porre al servizio di tutti la sua lunga e valente esperienza professionale maturata proprio con i Mastini Napoletani.

L'ATIMANA sempre più intende occuparsi della salute del Mastino Napoletano. E' questa una strada obbligata, che solo gli ottusi rifiutano. A chi ed a cosa serve un grande Mastino se vive solamente pochissimi anni o non riproduce normalmente. Occorre intensificare gli sforzi e la ricerca proprio per garantire una vita il più "Normale " possibile ai nostri cani, non solamente per loro, ma anche per noi, poichè veder morire un cane in giovane età è una gravissima perdita per la Razza e per la Cinofilia, me è, al tempo stesso, una perdita ed un dolore per chi con tanto amore l'ha allevato e cresciuto.

Per questo il tema trattato quest'anno e di particolare e significativa importanza, e proprio per questo ringrazio gli illustri relatori, Prof., Luigi Guidobono Cavalchini ed, ancora una volta il Dr. Nello Crimaldi, per aver voluto affrontare un tema, certamente non facile, ma sicuramente di grandissimo interesse per la Razza.

Il nostro "Comitato Scientifico-Tecnico" racchiude in se tutte le esperienze e tutte le professionalità necessarie per poter dare, sempre più, delle indicazioni utili sotto il profilo sanitario per il Mastino Napoletano. Ci è spiaciuto molto perdere la Dottoressa Sherilyn Allen, che tanto ha dato in passato. Mi auguro che il suo allontanamento dalla Razza sia un fatto momentaneo e che la sua lunga esperienza, di Veterinaria e di Allevatrice, possa essere ancora posta al servizio di molti.

Amici carissimi, personalmente ormai da molti anni dedico all'ATIMANA la quasi totalità del mio tempo libero, sottraendolo, spesso, agli interessi familiari. Lo dedico con grande amore per la Razza e per pura e disinteressata passione, non avendo mai avuto interessi diretti nel Mastino Napoletano, che amo, studio e giudico da oltre 35 anni. Comincio ad essere stanco, soprattutto perché, proprio nel mio Paese, gli attacchi e le bassezze cui sono sottoposto, assieme alla mia famiglia, sono ingiuriose ed avvilenti. Non so quanto ancora potrò resistere a queste ingiurie, che, credetemi, oltre che offendere stancano ed avviliscono. Non è più la "Mia Cinofilia ", fatta di pura passione.

L'ATIMANA ha avuto e continua ad avere, viceversa, dei grandi riconoscimenti all'Estero. Per molti Paesi è un punto di riferimento per il Mastino Napoletano. Ciò è anche merito dei Club affiliati che con il loro serio lavoro hanno reso grande la Razza e le sue qualità, spesso dimenticando il mercato.

Abbiamo portato avanti assieme, tutti assieme, un discorso serio ed impegnato di tutela, promozione e difesa del Mastino Napoletano, sempre nel pieno ed assoluto rispetto dello Standard Italiano, del quale siamo sempre stati strenui difensori. Lo abbiamo fatto anche a costo di apparire eccessivamente duri e severi, sia nel corso dei giudizi, sia nei molti seminari, come quello di oggi, tenuti un po' in tutto il mondo, con Giudici, Allevatori ed appassionati. Gli Amici e colleghi Giudici da noi invitati, e che ringrazio tutti, nel corso dei nostri annuali Campionati, hanno sempre giudicato avendo ben presente lo Standard, non hanno mai deviato, non hanno mai concesso di più o di meno di quanto i soggetti al loro giudizio meritassero, ma, soprattutto non hanno mai guardato chi conduceva i cani. Hanno "Giudicato "e basta! Questo lo dico con forza e con pieno convincimento. Vorrei che sempre ed ovunque fosse la stessa cosa.

A me duole moltissimo che ciò è stato ben compreso ed apprezzato all'Estero e denigrato, anche con bassezze in Italia. Questo mi spiace e mi addolora, ma sono fiero di come si è mossa e sempre si muoverà 1'ATIMANA, perché questa è la sua vera forza e ne sono riprova le numerosissime presenze dei "Mastinari "da tutto il mondo ai nostri Campionati. Altri non possono certamente vantare simili primati.

BOARD OF DIRECTOR'S REPORT TO THE 10TH A.T.LMA.NA. GENERAL MEETING

Dear Friends,

This year ATIMANA has come back to Italy for the third time. It has returned to Cóntarina after 1 years, thanks to the efforts of our friend and Auditor Ettore Crepaldi, to whom I give our most heartfelt thanks, together with the Delta Dog Club of which he is President. Further sincere thanks are due to the Porto Viro Council, headed by the Mayor, Mr. Mancin, whose appreciation of the importance of this yearly event has made a substantial contribution, as has the local Tourist Office. Committed, worthy, canine organizations are finding more often the support in the Provinces which is frequently lacking in large cities. This demonstrates particular sensitivity towards the contribution that dogs cari make in a social context.

I would also like to thank PEDIGREE, this event's official sponsor; the )udges who wili be at work tomorrow; the numerous artists who enthusiastically accepted our invitation to organize the first Art Exhibition with the Neapolitan Mastiff as its theme, and finally, Dr. Mario Perricone, to whom we are tied by an long, deep and sincere friendship.

The President of the F.C.I. Mr. Hans Muller should have been with us. He sent a letter last year guaranteeing his presence. Unfortunately, we were forced to change the date of our event, due to the extreme bad taste of the Italian Club. Although the club was well aware of the date of our Championship, a Breed Specialty, which had traditionally been held in mid October, was programmed to take piace at the same time as our event. For this reason Mr. Muller cannot attend as he has a previously arranged judging appointment. We are extremely sorry about this inconvenience, but it is beyond our control. We apologize and we thank Mr. Muller for his intention to be with us, above ali because he has always appreciated our work, efforts and reliability. We hope that it will be possible in the near future.

To confirm what I have said, please see the attached letter dated 3151: July 2002, from our dear friend Mr. Hans Muller, president of FCI, in which he wishes us good luck and great success for our Championship.

According to the information received, the officiai delegates from the different affiliated clubs are the following:

The present Board of Directors joins these delegates, according to the statute, making a total of 39 voters.

As you can see there are no Colombian or Portuguese Club delegates. This is because for the last 2 years they have not sent any information or paid the membership fees although they have been sent several reminders, also by registered post. We wili attempt to contact them again to find out their intentions.

This Generai Meeting has been convened according to the statute. The letters of convocation were sent by registered post to the Club Presidents, Committee Members and the Auditors on the 27^th July, 2002.

Regarding organization, we must point out that in December, the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Italian Kennel Club, Prof. Cattaneo, revoked the resolution made by his predecessor, with which he nominated a Board Member as representative of the Italian Kennel Club. We are sorry about this, we have had various contacts regarding the issue, but another Commissioner, also nominated by the Agricultural Mínistry, has replaced Prof. Cattaneo. We will go forward, with the commitment and consistency that is being increasingly appreciated in other countries. We hope that the management of the Italian Kennel Club, wili   get back to normal as soon as possible, but, above ali, back into the hands of dog lovers, bringing the commissarial management to an end after nearly 2 years. With a Board elected by members, it will certainly be easier to reach a definite solution for us, and re-establish what the Italian Kennel club itself intended.

The new publication that you have received has been particularly important. It is more complete and up-to-date than previous issues and this new third edition is proving to be an even greater success. Requests from judges, breeders and dog lovers who wish to have a copy are received almost daily. This is a sign that it is highly appreciated. The FCI management has also appreciated it as well as presidents of Kennel clubs and many judges who have already received the publication. I must offer particular and significant thanks to Dolma Spa, the representative for Italy of PEDIGREE, who have borne ali the printing costs as weli as giving a considerable contribution towards this Championship here in Contarina. Once again, Dolma has shown particular sensitivity towards this ancient and important Italian Breed and us.

Equally important has been the web site for which special thanks must be given to Giovanni Matrone and Vincenzo Manna who have borne ali the realization and activation costs. In particular to Mr. Matrone who designed the site and keeps it updated, especially in view of the fact that my total ignorance regarding computers and electronics is chronic. Without him, there would not be a web site.

The approvai and support that ATIMANA receives from many Italian friends is shown by the personal contributions received from Patrizio De Vitale, Enzo Jervolino, Massimo Montemurro, Michele Palazzo and Antonella Ronchi whom once again I thank ori behalf of the entire ATIMANA. You will see the amount of their contributions in the Closing Statement for 2001. This shows how much our Association is appreciated in Italy even though the Breed Club is no longer a member. This demonstration of trust is particular pleasing as it is proof that the Italian Mastiff Lovers are stili in line with ATIMANA and appreciate its projects.

Concerning sporting events, there is no doubt that the 2001 Championship, organized by our friends from the Club du Matin Napolitain and held in France, was a great success; both regarding the number of participants and nations present, and for the excellent organization.

Once again it was the proof that our yearly Championship is well and truly a "Worid Championship". The proof is in the numbers and above ali the press coverage that this event generated. More than twenty publications from different countries wrote about the event reporting it with emphasis. Club

Newsletters, but also dog magazines and canine information journals dedicated a lot of space and photographic material. This is an important publicity tool, not only for the winners, or for ATIMANA but above ali for the breed.

So sincere thanks must go to the French Club, and ali the many people who have contributed by working for the organization of the event. In our Association, as in the clubs, voluntary work plays a particularly important role. Because of increasingly high costs, without these hidden, but valiant and precious helpers, associations couid not exist. They often work just for the pleasure of heiping, without asking for anything in return and often we forget about them.

So, on behalf of ali ATIMANA, thank you, ali of you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------­

Equally important was the subject dealt with by our dear friend Dr. Nello Crimaldi, during the International Scientific Conference on the Neapolitan Mastiff. "LEISHMANIASIS" is unfortunately a scourge, which is spreading increasingly, most of ali in the Mediterranean Basin. Ali the participants were extremely interested in the learned, erudite report. This was obvious by the greater than usual participation after the speech during which some extremely interesting questions were answered by Dr.Crimaldi. Unfortunately not enough is known to be abie to wipe out this disease. We believe that the important contribution presented by the speaker can heip breeders, at least regarding prevention and early recognition of the symptoms so that preventive and urgent treatment can be carried out. I will never tire of thanking Nello Grimaldi for ali this. During these years, and no doubt in the future, he has been and will be for us a skillful consultant, always availabie to give others the benefit of his long and courageous professional experience acquired with Neapolitan Mastiffs.

L'ATIMANA intends to dea] increasingly with the health of the Neapolitan Mastiff. It is the only way and only the obtuse fail to recognize it. Who and why does anybody want a great Mastiff if it only lives a few years and cannot breed naturally. We must intensify research and effort to guarantee our dogs a life as norma] as possibie, not only for them, but also for ourselves, because to see a young dog die is a deep loss for the Breed, for the Dog World, for me, and at the same time a loss and sorrow for whoever lovingly bred and reared it.

For this reason, this year's theme is particularly and significantly important. So, many thanks to Prof. Luigi Guidobono Cavalchini and once more to Dr. Nello Crimaldi, for choosing to address a subject, which, although not easy, is of great interest to the breed.

Our "Scientific-Technical Committee" has the professional experience and know­how which enabies it to give usefui information regarding health matters for the Neapolitan Mastiff. I am extremely sorry that we have lost Doctor Sherilyn Allen, who has been so generous in the part. I hope that her separation is just momentary and that her great experience both as a veterinarian and a breedercan be once again put to the service of everyone.

Dear Friends, I have been dedicating most of my free time to ATIMANA for many years, often to the detriment of my family. I have given this time purely for love of the breed and only for a totally disinterested passion, as I have never had any commerciai interest in the Neapolitan Mastiff, which I love and have studied for more than 35 years. I am beginning to be tired, above ali because in my own country the attacks and baseness to which my family and I have been subjected are offensive and disheartening. I doni know how much longer I can put up with these insults which, believe me, as well as being hurtful, tire and depress me. This is no longer "my dog worid", made up of pure passion.

On the other hand ATIMANA has been, and is stili, highly esteemed abroad. For many countries it is a reference point for the Neapolitan Mastiff, always fully respecting the Breed Standard which we have constantly, strongly defended. The merit for this goes to the affiliated Clubs, which with their hard work have made the breed and its qualities great, often with no thought about the market.

Ali of us together have supported an important and committed viewpoint, protecting, promoting and defending the Neapolitan Mastiff, fully respecting the Italian Breed Standard which we have always fervently supported. We have supported. this viewpoint even sometimes with the risk of appearing rigid and severe, both while judging and during the many seminars, such as today, held ali round the worid with Judges, Breeds and fanciers. My friends and colleagues, the judges who have we have invited during our yearly Championships, have always judged according to the Standard, never deviating, never awarding more or less than the dogs being judged merited, but above ali never looking at the person at the other end of the lead. They have simply "Judged"! I say this with emphasis and conviction. I wish I couid always say the same for everywhere else.

I deeply regret that what has been understood and appreciated abroad, is denigrated with vile behaviour in Italy. This hurts me and is a great disappointment, but I am proud of how ATIMANA has progressed so far and how it will act in the future, because this is its real strength and the proof is in the numerous number of Mastiff Fanciers from ali over the worid who attend our Championships. No one else can equal these record numbers.

On behalf of the whole Board, and myself, thank you for your attention.
